Black Shuck is the name given to a specter which is said to wander the region of East Anglia (Eastern England). Black Shuck is most often cited as wandering the coast and the countryside. Stories of the Shuck persist in folklore throughout much of the British Isles, and he goes by many names. Old Shock, Old Shuck, just “Shuck” and more commonly, “The Black Dog.” The beast is described as a huge, ghostly black dog with glowing eyes and thick, shaggy fur. Accounts of the phantom dog differ somewhat, as some have recalled that he has but one glowing eye, like a spark of fire upon his forehead. Some describe him as the size of a large dog, but others have declared that he appeared to them the size of a horse. People have claimed to witness the canine specter countless times over the centuries.

According to the myths, the Black Dog may cross your path in the night, and you will see his glowing eye/s, and hear the haunting thunder of his ungodly howl, but you will not hear his footfalls. He will appear before you, and you will feel the terror of coming face-to-face of a known omen of death. It is said that if Shuck comes to you, you will experience a death within one year. Sometimes, the one who dies will be you but more often he foretells the passing of a loved one. While the Black Dog is frightening, formidable, and not of this earth, he is not considered a threat himself. He comes to us to warn…
